Broken Promises, Broken Shelter Government Abandons $6.5M Redevelopment of Dawn House – Nothing Built, Funding Gone!
Dawn House Women’s Shelter has criticised the Northern Territory Government for removing $6.5 million in promised redevelopment funding from the 2025–26 Budget, despite no prior warning and no progress on the project. Pledged in 2021 to upgrade ageing crisis accommodation, the funding was quietly dropped after a year of planning discussions. CEO Ana Aitcheson called the move indefensible, stressing that demand for safe shelter is growing and the decision puts vulnerable women and children at further risk.
