Purpose and Objectives of the Network

The Domestic and Family Violence Network (The Network) links the various government and non-government organisations working in the area of Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) in the Greater Darwin area. The focus of its work is on subjects directly related to DFV.

Its three main objectives:

  1. Information-sharing by facilitating information-sharing and liaison between service providers on subjects directly related to DFV, and identifying and promoting useful resources and training.

  2. More effective service delivery by encouraging cooperation and coordination between agencies, departments and individuals; providing a forum for consultation with key stakeholders on relevant products, policies, and practices; and improving the quality of organisational responses to DFV by sharing examples of best practice and policy from around the NT and Australia

  3. Strategic advocacy by identifying systemic issues, gaps and needs, and where appropriate, advocating as a network for these to be addressed; and providing input to government, particularly with regard to legislation, policy development and resource allocation.

Membership

Membership of the Network is open to government and non-government organisations working in the field of DFV, or to organisations/departments who have substantial numbers of clients impacted by DFV.

Organisations can be invited to join the Network by the DV Community Educator (DVCE) from Dawn House, or they may approach the DVCE and request to join the Network. The DVCE circulates all nominations for membership for consideration by the members. There are no limits to the number of members, or the length of membership.

Any staff who work in a DFV-related area of a member organisation or department may attend a Network meeting. Please let us know you will be coming by emailing the DVCE.

Communication with the Network

A Network email list is maintained by the DVCE, and communication happens by email to the Network. Only material directly relating to the Network’s agenda will be circulated to the Network.

Network members may also subscribe to the NT DFV Distribution List (The List). Organisations and individuals who are not members of the Network can subscribe to the List, which covers the whole NT, not just the Greater Darwin region. Individual members’ email addresses will be kept private via the use of the BCC function

Please contact the DVCE to find out more about the Network or become a member; to request to attend and/or present at a Network meeting or to let us know you’re coming; to subscribe to the List; or to circulate an item through the List.
